How to think about writing your review
Hi queen!
Are you having a hard time thinking about how to form your review for launch day?
Well, no worries. You’ve come to the right place.
Here are a few guidelines I put together to help you think about how to leave your review. Please note that this guide is by no means meant to influence or sway your opinion about the book.
If you filled out this google form then leaving your review should be fairly simple.
After you rate the book between 1-5 stars on launch day (January 23rd), you will also be asked to leave written feedback, if you wish. It is extremely helpful for me and for future sales of the book if you leave written feedback.
It doesn’t have to be an essay—just a few lines can do the trick. But just make sure it’s clear, concise, and honest.
Here are 3 major points that you might want to consider hitting in your review:
Overall feeling about the book. Can be as personal or as brief as possible. How did the book impact you? Did it drive you to take action or make changes? What were they? Giving detail, when possible, is always helpful.
What stood out to you the most and why? Were there specific visuals, analogies, quotes, chapters, etc that linger in your mind after reading the book? Why do you think these specific elements have stayed with you? Again, giving detail, when possible, is always helpful.
Would you recommend it, and to whom? Who is the ideal audience in your opinion? This is important because some people might not buy the book for themselves, but for someone they know that fits the description.
How to think about leaving constructive feedback:
Listen, I get it. This book isn’t for everyone. Maybe it’s not what you were expecting or hoping it would be, and that’s ok. My feelings are not hurt.
But I will say that it would be helpful for me, and my growth as a newly minted author (woot, woot!) if you could frame your constructive feedback in a way that allows me to grow, and doesn’t squash my potential.
Because at the end of the day, we have the potential to achieve what we want. But a key difference in those that do reach their goals, and those that don’t is the type of people had around them (as I’m sure you know from reading the book #RosenthalEffect).
As you’re framing your constructive feedback I would think about these two areas of consideration:
What you would like to see more of in future editions and why?
What you would like to see less of in future editions why?
Both of these questions really allow me to understand what was working or not working for you, and gives me action items to follow up on. It allows me to keep improving rather than feeling like all of my effort was for nothing.
If you are planning on leaving me three stars or less…
Please feel free to reach out to me at daysha@yesqueenlife.com. I would love the opportunity to speak with you and potentially clarify any elements or thoughts that you were not a fan of. I would also just really love the opportunity to hear from you directly about what improvements I could make for the future.
This is my first book, and while I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished, I know that nothing is perfect and would definitely welcome your recommendations.
Ok, that’s it!
Don’t forget that launch/review day is January 23rd.
